Stephen Exley in his “Academic’s anger over ban on foreign PhD examiners” post enlights the situation when best non-UK professors are now not legitimate doing their job in UK:
“Classics professor Mary Beard says staff have been told that only external examiners with a right to work in the UK – such as those with citizenship from Britain or another European Union country – will be allowed to examine postgraduate theses”,
This is a requirement of the law, athorities say. It is interesting but weird to observe how politicians and non-academic forces change the academic world and Cambridge University known as one of the leading schools worldwide.
We are pretty sure the theses will soon be checked by the same tutors though – the University’s administration will find legitimate way to still employ best of the best.
